Introduction to the Trade Dispute Resolution Institution

The China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) is a permanent international commercial arbitration institution. It independently and impartially resolves contractual or non-contractual commercial disputes at both international (including Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and Taiwan region) and domestic levels. The CIETAC was set up in April 1956. After more than five decades of unremitting and pioneering efforts to improve its service, CIETAC has become one of the major commercial arbitration institutions in the world. There are 274 foreign arbitrators among the 969 Arbitrators listed by the CIETAC, many of whom are prestigious experts in international trade, intellectual property and other fields.
The China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission South China Sub-Commission (CIETAC South China) was established in 1984 in Guangdong with the permission of the State Council. With parties from countries and regions as trade partners of China, the CIETAC South China enjoys a wide reputation domestically and internationally. Its arbitral awards have been commonly recognized and enforced outside of China, and the first domestic Chinese arbitral award recognized and enforced outside of Mainland China was issued by the CIETAC South China.
As the sole and only arbitration institution in the Canton fair since the 94th Fair in October 2003, the CIETAC South China has dedicated in providing Canton Fair exhibitors and buyers with at-scene arbitration consulting service. Since the 102nd Canton Fair in October 2007, the CIETAC South China has participated actively in the Complaint Reception Station upon invitation where the Commission has helped Fair participants resolve cases by mediation at scene in a prompt, harmonious and cost-effective manner. The Commission creatively combines mediation with arbitration so as to safeguard all Fair participants¡¯ rights and interests effectively and guarantee safe trading.
