Yiwu is an international trade city which rises rapidly in the central cities of Zhejiang province. It was called Wushang County in the 25th of Qin Dynasty Yingzheng Period, and was changed as Yiwu in 1988. The city has a population of more than 1800,000 with 710.000 registered residents, and covers a total land area of 1,105 square Kilometers. Furthermore, it bears a time-honored history, there already exists many outstanding persons in this city such as Luo Binwang---one of the four Outstanding Persons in Early Tang Dynasty, Zong Ze-the famous Anit-Jin General of Song Dynasty, Zhu Danxi-one of the Four Famous doctors of Jin and Yuan Dynasty, In modern times, Yiwu has produced educationist Chen Wangdao, litterateur Feng Xuefeng and historian WuHan,and etc.

Since the reform and opening up, Yiwu government insists on implementing the strategy of developing our city by prospering commerce industry. The Yiwu people are diligent, studious, straight forward, capable and honest ,and we are also unswerving carrying forward this for years to come. Since forming the roadside market of “chicken feather exchange for candy business”, we have blazed a new road which bears the characteristics of unique, sustainable, coordinated, and sound through prospering the commodity market through which it drive the city into a high level.

In 2007, Yiwu regional GDP hit 42 billion yuan and financial revenue reached and 5.888 billion yuan, which saw year-on-year increase of 31.2%. Balance of deposit and loan amounted to 85.56 billion and 59.77 billion RMB respectively. Per capita disposable income of urban residents and per capita net income of rural residents came up to 25,007 RMB and 10,255 RMB. Yiwu is approved as the “the most favorable city by public”,“outstanding tourist cities of China”both home and abroad. Yiwu is listed as one of five superior cities in modem service industry in the 11th “five-year plan” period. The capability of the supervision of export and import goods, foreign exchange management, foreign affair management, and the service system have also improved a lot. Approved by State Council, Yiwu has become the first one to be authorized the examination and endorse rights of going abroad as well as one of the first to have the right to invite foreigners. Yiwu now is at a new historical starting point, and adhere to the principle of striving to be the top one in innovation capability and creating a better Yiwu, and we firmly believe that Yiwu will have a glorious future.
